Sherilyn's retirement reception January 24, 2008

Nana was happy to see Bryson and Cason

Also, Tommy and Pat came from San Angelo in very threatening weather.

Icy roads were forecast, but the San Angelo crew was able to be here. Also Iris Hall-Sanders, one of Sherilyn's Midland workers.

Ann Bailey, one of Sherilyn's San Angelo workers, said some really nice things about her

Beverly Hutchins, Sherilyn's former supervisor, and mentor wrote a poem and read it:

ODE TO SHERILYN

ON HER RETIREMENT

JANUARY 2008

Sherilyn's decided now's the time
To retire from CPS.
When she asked Lynn if the time was right,
She got a resounding "Yes!"

She's given much to the agency,
And we want her to know
That while we're truly happy for her,
We hate to see her go.
She has a special unit and
A special group of peers.
Now all of them express their thanks
For her dedicated years.

We can't let her leave without
The chance to reminisce
About her time with the agency
That she is sure to miss.

On Sherilyn's first day on the job,
She met Reba and Jan--
Two friends she can still call friends today--
At least she thinks she can!

It started off quite innocently,
With Jan giving her the tour.
When Reba happened by that day
She didn't know Sherilyn, we're sure.

She gave a "friendly gesture" to them,
Then got the shock of her life,
When Jan introduced the new worker to her--
Who was also a preacher's wife!

Her status as a minister's wife
Could sometimes be a plus,
When staff like Barbara respected her
And tried hard not to "cuss"!

Workers say that Sherilyn's always
So very sweet and nice.
Her staff all love her and respect
Her direction and advice.
Another comment we're all heard
Is how pretty she always is.
With clothes and hair and looks so nice,
Lynn's sure glad she's his!

Iris wants her to know she'll miss
Her quiet and gentle spirit.
Sherilyn's made a difference here,
And she wants her to hear it.

LaDonne suspects her retirement date
Was planned after she was hired.
She truly hates to see her go,
And is sorry to have made her so tired!
When she and Linda were at "Seven Habits,"
We have a little hunch,
That the most important habit they learned
Was where to go to lunch!
Sherilyn's really brave, you know--
Except for one fierce beast.
No wonder those chickens frighten her--
The're scary, to say the least!
Sherilyn's living in the wrong decade.
The 50's is where she belongs--
Going to drive-ins, listening to Elvis
And all those 50's songs.

She's taught her grandson to believe
That Elvis is truly "the King."
They made a trip to Graceland and
They even heard Elvis sing!
You wouldn't guess that for this lady
NASCAR is her passion.
She has more interest in racing cars
Than in the latest fashion!
Africa is her trip of choice.
The country's beautiful,
But a certain family of Africans
Is the country's greatest pull!
To Sherilyn:
You've meant so much to families,
They are more than "cases" to you.
You train the staff to feel the same,
And we know that most of them do.

Sherilyn, we wish you all the best.
We hope retirement's great.
After a job that's so much "fun,"
It may be to sedate!
All staff and friends here wish you well,
They'll miss you, but they know
That you'll enjoy this time with Lynn
And watching your grandkids grow.
CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR RETIREMENT!

The "Guitar Cake" presented by Sherilyn's supervisor, Sherrel Mathews

LaDonne, of Sherilyn's Odessa unit

Gwen, Unit Tech, presents Sherilyn with a "Memories Book"

The expression is excitement over "the tickets" to NASCAR

Jan was always whispering "little diddies."

This was a very nice reception. Special folks who were there were Clint and Sherry Hudson, Tina Nelms, Cherise, Bryson and Cason Procter and Tommy and Pat King. Sherilyn was honored by all that were there for her dedication and loyalty to her unit, both as a worker and especially as a supervisor, and her service to the agency, and especially to the Foster and Adoption children of Region 9. One of the presentations that I videoed, but I couldn't put it on here, was her certificate presented to her by her first supervisor, Tom Ellison that said Sherilyn was really, REALLY (notice the two reallys) his favorite. I'll let her explain when she see's you. If I knew how to do YOU TUBE, I'd put it on here. --Hey look, I did it!
