It's been a while since I've given a report on Granddaddy. Since his birthday in January, he has had some ups and downs. On February 1st, he was admitted to the hospital with pneumonia. His stay lasted until Thursday the 7th at which time he went back to Royal Estates. Since that time, he's had a couple of bouts that we had to take him to the emergency room because he was dehydrated. In the meantime, his "new doctor" decided to become a hospitalist and closed his private practice so we had to change. We got him in to see a new doctor who we like really well but in his thorough exam, he found some difficulties with his feet so he referred him to a podiatrist, who found an ulcer on his foot that turned out to be a staph infection that is all the way to the bone. He wears a protective "boot" that protects the wound dressing on his foot. A home health agency who does his physical, speech and occupational therapy, is now in charge of the wound care on this ulcer. The good news is that it is improving, thanks to the high powered anti-biotic the doctors prescribed for him. Sherilyn and I took him for an eye doctor's appointment this morning and everything is fine with his eyes. He had commented about difficulty in reading since "his stroke" and we wanted to see if the stroke had affected his vision. It had not, and the eye doctor said there was no need to change his prescription. He still enjoys his home at Royal Estates. When we got through, we asked him if he wanted to go out to eat and he said no, he wanted to eat at home. We rolled him in as they were opening the doors to the dining room where he eats, and his aid came down the hall looking for him to get him settled. He is solid into his routine, but he does like to get out and go to the doctor. Sherilyn asked him the other day if he would like to have one of the motorized scooters to get around. He said he thought he would get up out of the wheel chair and start walking more so we wouldn't need to buy one of those. We'll see. He is in good spirits and is looking forward to when the Africa bunch comes to the states.
