Pictured above is Granddaddy and his family
On December 29, 2008 at 2:40 a.m. with Tommy, Pat, Sherilyn and Lynn at his bedside Granddaddy departed this life for the better one. This picture was taken in July 2008 and includes his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Doc was very proud of his family and though he was a quiet man, all his customers knew of the activities in ministry of his children and grandchildren. I will refer you to Cheryl's blog where you can find a wonderful tribute to this wonderful man of quiet strength. The rest of this post will be the "obituary" written by Tommy with help from Sherilyn, which I think is a very fitting tribute to their dad.

King, M.D. "Doc"
ODESSA Born January 20, 1921, in Sagerton, Texas, to Charlie and Winnie King, Marion Davis (Doc) King quietly passed from this life and into the care and keeping of his Lord on December 29, 2008. Doc grew up in the cotton fields of Haskell County and graduated from Rochester High School in 1938. He married Grace Cameron on November 28, 1942, and Doc and Grace enjoyed almost 60 years together prior to her death in 2002. As a member of the "Greatest Generation," Doc served his country as a soldier in the 5th Army during World War II - participating in campaigns in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France, Belgium and Germany - including the landing on Anzio Beach and the Battle of the Bulge. In 1951, Doc and Grace, along with their children Sherilyn and Tommy, moved to Grandfalls and then to Monahans where Doc was employed by Cities Service Pipeline. They came to Odessa in 1972, and Doc retired from Cities Service as a District Gauger in 1983. He opened M.D. King's Lawnmower Repair where he found purpose in working with his hands and providing quality service for his customers whom he regarded more as friends. He was a faithful member of the Eisenhower Church of Christ. Doc always enjoyed a good game of dominoes or forty-two, but he mainly enjoyed the people he played with. He was a quiet man who taught, more by actions than words, the value of hard work and integrity. His children and grandchildren will be forever grateful for his gentle care, provision and direction. Doc was preceded in death by his wife, Grace; his parents; and one sister, Ada Tucker. He is survived by his daughter, Sherilyn Money and husband Lynn of Sterling City; his son, Tommy and wife Pat of San Angelo; and his sister Johnnie Bell King of Rochester. He is also survived by five grandchildren; Cheryl Cash and husband Jeff of Fort Portal, Uganda; Cherise Procter and husband Wade of Odessa; Carlon King and wife Raven of San Angelo; Jeff King and wife Rebecca of Pflugerville; and Tanner King and wife Joanna of Arlington; and by ten great-grandchildren.
