On September 16, Granddaddy fell in his house in Odessa and broke his hip. On Wednesday the 19th, he had surgery at MCH. The Dr. said there were two different kinds of breaks but the surgery went well. He had a partial replacement of the hip. The socket was repairable but the "ball joint" had to be replaced. I'm sure there are better medical terms that could be used, but I didn't want to look it up in a medical dictionary. We have been fortunate to have him do his rehab in Sterling City at the nursing home here. Right after I got here, they asked me to serve on the nursing home board. There's something in the Bible that says "for such a time as this." Coincidence??? I don't think so! Anyway, on Monday the 24th, the local county EMS bunch (with whom I serve on the board) transported Granddaddy from Odessa to Sterling City. He is in good spirits and is working hard in rehab. He has occupational and physical therapy every day. He is eating good and the pain is getting more bearable by the day. The nursing home is 5 blocks up the street from our house. It is also handy for Tommy and Pat to come from San Angelo. Carlon, Raven and Jaron came to see Granddaddy on Saturday. Our church filled in for another group for singing at the nursing home last Sunday, and Granddaddy was able to come for that. He got to sing with one of Sherilyn's favorite "cowboy song leaders". Danny Hinderliter was able to be there to lead singing on Sunday. The residents at the nursing home love him. Anyway, Granddaddy is making progress. It is going to be a slow process, especially in Granddaddy's eyes. Please pray for his patience. Also especially pray for Sherilyn and Tommy as they face mega hard decisions about the future of their Dad's care.
